Hardware Codec

The illustration below shows a Cisco hardware CODEC. For reasons of clarity, extenders are not shown. Multiple inputs and outputs for video and audio are provided. Audio inputs may be microphone or line level.

Note that a Cisco CODEC cannot be controlled by its RS232C interface. External control can only be accomplished through USB. Unfortunately, not all needed functions are exposed through the USB interface. A workaround for this is to incorporate a Cisco Room Navigator for control and an external DSP for audio.
